Bridgeland Market ~ The Best Market in Calgary
Bridgeland Market is easily one of my favourite Calgary institutions. It reminds me so much of the food stores in Europe; a place where you go to get all the things you need, where you want to stay & hang out. The focus here is on building community, & you can definitely feel that vibe when you walk in. Many suppliers are local (some even within the owner's family), & on any given day you can find the employees deep in conversation with one of the regulars. In fact, I think it's a safe bet to say that most people who shop here are regulars!
While the market does stock their goods pretty consistently, my favourite part is how often they switch things up. The baking is different each time I go, there is always a various assortment of cheese & deli meats, & they do daily lunch & dinner specials - the sandwiches are SO GOOD. They also have the best hummus I have ever had in my life - definitely try it out. You can also grab a fresh coffee or americano from the bar while you shop, or stock up on some Truebuch Kombucha on tap.
For the Christmas season they were doing special orders of organic turkey & ham, & you could pre-order one of four delicious homemade pies*. The front half of the market has been turned into Christmas haven -delightful little stocking stuffers, napkins & plates, hostess gifts & all the little things that make the holiday season so special can be found here. They have also put together gift baskets with themes like "A Warm Winter's Night", so if you are in need of a last minute gift I would suggest keeping these in mind!
*the official date of ordering has passed, but according to their instagram they have a couple left - it wouldn't hurt to run down to check it out! You might find some other goodies as well..
