How to use your wardrobe to evaluate your life

Working with your wardrobe is a practice to start connecting with your intuition and evaluate how authentically you’re living. It’s a means to step back into yourself and connect with your body. To prove to yourself that you trust yourself. That you trust your inner voice. That you are ready to listen, show up and receive. That you are ready to walk this path in an authentic way, rather than in the way you “should”. That you will listen to your intuition instead of all the outside voices and expectations.

Clothing is a symbol of our values & how we see ourselves. While ethical fashion and personal styling are something I’m passionate about, for me it’s always been about using those things as tools to evaluate what our values are and what we truly want out of life. Are you selling out your values, buying things that aren’t in alignment with them? Where else in your life are you doing this? It’s a palatable, low risk tool to start playing around with learning to hear your intuition and living in a way that’s more authentic to yourself. With a little intention, you can curate a wardrobe that express who you truly are and what you value. Then, if you look in your closet & still hate everything you have, it’s not about the clothes. It’s about your life & everything else in it.

If that’s where you’re at, make some time to journal about these things:

  • What else feels like it doesn’t belong in your life?

  • When have you said “yes” when you wanted to say “no”?

  • What values & dreams are you ignoring?

  • What parts of yourself have you disowned or lost?

  • In what ways are you not being authentically you?

  • Do you even know who “you” is?

Here’s a simple everyday practice to connect to your intuition using your wardrobe.

Every morning when getting dressed, connect your feet to the ground.

Take three deep, belly-full breaths.

Ask your inner self: What you truly want to wear today. How do you need to feel going into today? How does your body want to be clothed to face the day? How do you want to show up in the world?

Open your eyes, reach into your closet and grab what feels best. Put it on, and check in with your body and intuition - do you want to keep this on?
